An answer to Kev. What I think really happend with G Dub and Darth Dick.
I think that Bush W is / was merely intellectually lazy. Have you read that "Dunce" column by his old professor at Harvard? He's also mean. I read once where he was the 'ass kicker' among the staff on his fathers campaign.
I agree that Cheney has had control of the levers he's wanted. I often think about W saying that he asked Cheney to form a Vice Presidential search committee. I think this is true, at Dad's request. What I really wonder about is who's idea it was to pick Cheney. I could see it going either way. Bush wanted to be lazy. Or Cheney wanted control. Or ... they just dovetailed perfectly.
I think the Cheney, Rummy, Wolffy group were intellectuals that were flat wrong about their strategy, but intellectual just the same. Add a sense of Devine right.
Lazy mind meets wrongheadedness.
And George wants revenge.
But sometime. Maybe last fall. Maybe continuing on... George begins to think. Rudimentarily maybe. But on his own. No more "What should I do Dick?" This time its "Hey, YOU guys got me into a mess." I think it may actually bother him that the American people don't like him. Perhaps even he is beginning to own some of the death he caused.
Just a crack of doubt. But its growing.
And I think that now that Saddam is dead (and captured would have been fine thank you. Justice will arrive eventually) his vague, dormant, warped sense of morality/guilt/obligation/duty/justice peeks through the crack, looks back and says bad things happened, maybe I should have stopped them. This is not "I am responsible" This is, "Since I'm right, what did I miss?" But I think I see the edge of doubt.
So now I see a boy who is failing, saying that he's going to study from now on.
Too bad his teachers taught him this way was the right way. Too bad the intellectuals were flat wrong.
I think now he doesn't trust his handlers, and he's trying to be his own president. He's just unimaginably unqualified.
But that's what I think.

Steve,
I disagree with your comment that Bush W is beginning to own soem of the deaths that he has caused. I hold him personally responsiblefor all of the deaths that have occurred since the beginning of the Iraq war. I do not believe that he is feeling responsible for the more than 3K deaths because of his recent decision to send more of our men and women, young and old to die there. I believe that the only way for the lives of future soldiers to be saved is for a slow, calculated and smart withdrawl of the troops in order to give the message to Iraq that we are not going to continually support that country with the lives of our citizens. I do not claim to have any military knowledge of how something liek that is done and the best and safest way to do it, but I do believe that there are people in the military who know how to do it corretly, safely and expeditiously.
Enough of my rant though. As an aside, I am greatly and further encouraged to start my own blog because of seeing your comments against Bush W and the courage to do so. So far, I have not had the courage to do one, because I do feel "paranoid" about how monitored blogs might be.
I really don't know what to think though. Maybe, hopefully, I will have the courage to start my own blog really soon, maybe even before I move to NC.
Darth Dick is a FANTASTIC name for the "guy"
Well Chris. I hate to tell you this but you do have the courage. You posted here.
And speaking of listening in, there's a funny line in a song my friend sent me:
Condolezza please, tell them I ordered cheese!
