On the whole it is true, but presented in a way so as to be most off puting for the largely evangelical christian audiance for which it was made. This presentation also contains a number of largely 19th century Mormon folk belifes, and a few instances of arguable distortion. It is also important to remember that the beliefs of individual Mormons are not as monolithic as some, even within the church, would like to belive. This cartoon is included in Ed Deckers famed anti-Mormon film 'The GodMakers', which has been critized for inacuracys by Christian and Jewish groups, as well as other prominate anti-Mormons such as the Tanners of Utah Lighthouse Ministrys.
Thanks for the comment. I come from the land of Joseph Smith which I think is kinda fun.
I think I saw that cartoon on television once, in part, while flipping through the channels. It was surreal and I'd never seen it again.
There was an article in the Atlantic Monthly - some couple of years ago, about the growth of religions. You think its going to say Muslims were the fastest growing religious group but in the article they suggested that Christian sects, including some smaller ones, would be the growth area of religion in the upcoming century or so.
I'm going to have to verify this, but I think that the Mormons and the Jehovah's Witnesses both started right here in upstate NY.
